Narrow-hole glass demijohn intended for the fermentation of wines, beers, meads and tinctures. The plastic, removable casing allows for thorough cleaning of the demijohn, while protecting the glass against breakage.
Characteristics The glass from which the demijohns are made is sodium glass with all approvals allowing for contact with food. The demijohn is available in transparent and green variants. It is not possible to choose the color of the glass.
Use of demijohns must not be washed in hot water and must not be subjected to rapid thermal changes (transfer from cold to warm environment), too high temperature could damage the glass. It is recommended to wash the balloons in lukewarm water with the addition of disinfectants, e.g. potassium metabisulphite.
The advantage of glass demijohns is their high tightness and the possibility of "observing" the fermentation process. From a practical point of view, it is recommended to carry out the first fermentation in the pulp in a fermentation container, and then - after the first pouring and squeezing of the fruit - further fermentation in a glass demijohn.
NOTE Due to the high stresses generated during the turbulent fermentation, it is recommended during this period to close the demijohn with a less tight cotton plug, which prevents possible glass breakage.
